MSMEs Prepare Early for Festive Demand as Credit Uptake Rises 35%: Namdev Finvest

Chandigarh, Oct 12: For India's MSMEs, the festive season brings an important opportunity to grow sales and strengthen business performance, but preparing for the demand often starts well in advance. Small businesses may need to build inventory, make advance payments to suppliers, increase production or strengthen their logistics and manpower. As a result, working capital is increasingly becoming part of the pre-festive business plan, with entrepreneurs looking to secure finance before cash-flow pressures emerge.

The broader credit environment also reflects this increased demand for finance. RBI data showed that bank advances increased by ₹4.1 lakh crore between September 5 and October 17, 2025, more than twice the increase recorded during the comparable festive period a year earlier. For MSMEs, timely access to credit can help businesses prepare for seasonal demand while keeping borrowing aligned with their business cycles and expected cash flows.

The demand side is strengthening too, with MSMEs increasingly preparing for higher festive demand by bringing forward their requirements for inventory, supplier payments, production and logistics. Namdev Finvest has observed ~35% growth in pre-festive MSME borrowing, indicating a growing preference for planned working-capital finance as businesses seek to secure stock and strengthen capacity ahead of the festive season.

For MSMEs, the timing of finance can matter as much as its availability. Retailers and traders need to secure inventory before demand peaks, manufacturers need capital to raise output, and distributors and service businesses need to prepare capacity and logistics. Planning these needs early helps businesses manage seasonal cash flows and enter the festive period better prepared.

Commenting on this, Mr. Jitendra Tanwar, MD and CEO, Namdev Finvest, said, "For most small businesses, the festive season begins well before customers start shopping. Entrepreneurs have to plan inventory, supplier payments and production capacity in advance, and planning the finances alongside these decisions can make a real difference. Those who prepare early are better placed to manage the season without putting pressure on their day-to-day cash flows.

Credit should solve a business need, not create another challenge for the entrepreneur. When the requirement is clear and repayment is aligned to the business cycle, timely finance gives entrepreneurs the confidence to prepare well and make the most of the season. Our role is to understand each business and support it at the right stage."

As the festive economy spreads beyond the metros into smaller towns, entrepreneurs who have inventory in place, suppliers paid and operations ready before the season begins are best placed to respond when demand picks up. For lenders, that means understanding each entrepreneur's business cycle and offering timely, responsible credit.
